Seems like Technics will cease production of the 1200 and 1210 in February 2010. 1200 series turntables have been an obligatory part of any DJ console, however, with a large expansion of digital media, it is time to replace obsolete gramophone record with the MP3 player. Or so thinks the company Panasonic, owner of Technics brand.

Probably the most interesting instrument of the eighties is portable keyboards, shoulder keyboard or keytar (keyboard guitar). This unusual keyboard design has allowed musicians to move freely around the stage which is not the case with the regular keyboard . What was it like you can see on the concert footage Jean-Michel Jarre held in Lisbon.

It is not known what are the reasons that led the company Roland for the third time trying to revive this almost forgotten segment of the keyboard, but we have the Roland AX-Synth. While earlier models AX-1 (1992.) and AX-7 (2002.) were just MIDI controllers, AX-Synth is real keyboard with 128 voices polyphony. New model will be available in first half of 2009., more info at official Roland page.

Next year is anniversary of the founding of the company Ludwig. Unfortunately, this year, on 22th March died William F Ludwig II, son of founder and founder of company known today. Ludwig & Ludwig built their success from 1908. Their focus is on producing drums for a movie theaters. But, with revolution of tone film, theaters no longer required drums and the company was bought by Conn. In 1937. father and son formed a new company, but due to legal problems used the name WFL until 1955. When Conn left the drum manufacturing they sold business and Ludwig name back to the family. In later years Ludwig built it's success, and probably one of the important events for Ludwig was performance of the famous Beatles 1964. in the Ed Sullivan show with Ludwig drums.
